Keystone Chair – Sunbrella Edition

OS and OOS

Rossana Orlandi invites her favourite designers to produce exterior versions of their interior concepts using Sunbrella fabrics. This iconoclastic vision of outdoor design opens up a whole new field of possibilities, where technical constraints no longer apply.
The Keystone project began as an investigation by designers OS & OOS into a structure composed of autonomous yet interdependent objects, based on a balance created by the underlying relationship of separate elements. This piece associates three basic elements of a Roman bridge (the best example of a structure in which separate parts join to form a whole): the spanners (elements connecting the bridge to the surface and stabilising the base), the elemental building blocks and the keystone (which creates the basic form of the arch).
The abstracted and reassembled versions of these three elements give form to the Keystone chair – a chair where there are no physical connections. It is held together by resistance. By using the strengths of each of the three elements, an independent structure is formed.

OS and OOS

Studio OS ? OOS is a design studio for small objects to larger spatial concepts. They tries to find the balance between form, material and their relation to the surroundings and the user. The majority of work borders the line of design (in the industrial/ functionality sense) and autonomous objects; best described as contemporary objects derived from concept, yet rationalized to give them purpose.
